Infants at Gingerbread Kids Academy are 6 weeks to about 12 months old. The room follows each child's own rhythm for feeding and napping. Teachers sit on the carpet with infants for grasping, turning, tracking, and cause and effect play. Feely books and textures give small hands something new to touch.
Awake infants go outside for 15 to 20 minutes with balls, push and pull toys, strollers, and infant swings. Inside, teachers build gross motor skills through reaching, pushing, pulling, crawling, and cruising. Fine motor work includes pounding, throwing, and target experiences.
Language grows through talking, listening, and looking. Music means moving to rhythms, listening, and singing. Breakfast, snacks, and lunch come according to each infant's needs. The day ends with teachers greeting parents at pick-up and sharing how the day went.
What this looks like in practice
In a licensed infant room, babies set the pace. They eat when hungry, nap when tired, and move through on-carpet time, sensory play with textures and feely books, and gross motor work like crawling and cruising. Awake babies go outside for 15 to 20 minutes.
You notice it at home. A baby who practices grasping and reaching starts picking up small things. One who rolls and crawls gets steadier on the floor. Singing and talking in the room come home as sounds, then words, and a baby who feels secure rests and eats more easily.
