01

Discipline Philosophy

Children have hard days. When a child struggles to cooperate, staff respond without hitting, harsh language, ridicule, or frightening treatment. New Jersey law requires anyone with reasonable cause to believe a child is being abused or neglected to report it to the Department of Children and Families at (800)792-8610. Reports may be made anonymously. Parents can call that number for more information.

02

Policy on the Release of Children

Tell us your pickup plan. Children are released only to custodial parents or to people the custodial parents authorize, and staff check identification. A non-custodial parent needs written authorization, kept on file, before visiting or pickup. If a court order denies a non-custodial parent access, we keep a copy. Ask the director about the steps staff follow when no one arrives by closing.

03

Policy on Participation and Visitation

Parents of enrolled children can visit any time, without asking the director or a staff member first. Drop in, watch the room, and see what your child does during the day. If you want to help with activities or operations, talk with the director about what is open. That conversation is where the specifics come from.

04

Day Trips and Outings

We tell you in advance about every field trip, outing, or special event away from the center. Before your child takes part in any trip, we must have your written consent. Watch for the notice and return the signed form.

05

Health Policy

Before enrolling, each child needs a physical exam, all required immunizations, and a physician's note showing an immunization schedule. Keep your child home with rashes or inflamed skin, fever, headache, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, earache, sore throat, eye inflammation, enlarged glands, or a persistent cough. A physician's note saying the illness is not contagious allows return. If symptoms start here, we call you to pick up your child.

01

Policy on the Management of Communicable Diseases

If your child has a symptom that could spread, keep them home. If symptoms appear at school, we remove the child from the classroom and call you to take them home. Your child may return once symptom-free, or with a physician's statement that they are no longer a health risk to themselves or others — and after being fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.

What this looks like in practice

Policies are the daily agreements behind the sign-in sheet. Who may collect a child, when a child stays home, when medication is given. At Gingerbread Kids Academy, staff are trained on health and sanitation procedures and child development expectancies. Each staff member has a child abuse background check and fingerprint check, and teachers are CPR and First Aid certified. Ask the director anything you want spelled out.

Children feel the difference when the adults around them follow the same steps every time. A child learns who picks them up, where they go after nap, what happens when they feel sick. Clear rules let a two-year-old relax into the routine. They also help a parent leave in the morning without a second guess. Ask us, and we will walk you through each one.
